B

Well, of course “B is for Books!” And also of course, there needs to be more than one. I first began  to read when I was about four. One of my first books was Sleeping Beauty, put out by Disney in conjunction with the film. It had beautiful scenes from the animated movie. I probably had other books, but all these decades later, this is the one I remember. Probably because of the fairies. Small wonder I would return to Fantasy at nineteen.

I went through many phases though. I had a Nancy Drew phase that lasted for some years and I read a lot of mysteries after that. Agatha Christie was a fave. I discovered Shakespeare and still have my leather bound volume of The Complete Works, which I received for my sixteenth birthday.

When I was in my twenties, I read four to five books a week. I usually went to the library once a week to stock up and devoured thrillers and mysteries, sci fi and fantasy. That continued until I discovered gaming and I cut back to two to three books a week.

I still read as much as I can, although not nearly as much as years past. But books are an important part of my life. A constant that I simply cannot imagine being without, even if I am slower at finishing my current reads these days.

Be sure to come back tomorrow for the letter “C” in this series.

  1. I was late to the reading scene. I didn’t really fall in love with it until I was an adult, though I did like it at times in high school. Wish I could read more.

    1. Hi Mark! I love your site and did the March Cover Wars and Scavenger Hunt. I’ve also been lucky enough to have some reviews posted. Thanks so much for stopping by!

  2. I love books…but numbers are my game, and they often get in the way of reading time….but I try to get a book in when I can. Good luck with the challenge!

  3. I loved Nancy Drew books as a kid. I would read every one I could get my hands on. I also loved Babysitters Club, Sweet Valley Twins/High, and some others that I can’t remember the names of.

  4. I don’t remember when I started to read, just that I always will. When someone says they don’t read, it makes me cringe. They may clarify the statement with “other than newspapers, magazines, blogs, etc.” Most people read more than they think they do. I adhere to Stephen King’s adage that if you don’t read you can’t write.

    1. Thanks for your comment, Gail. I have a few friends and family who don’t read books, but do read plenty of other material…so I forgive them. Mostly. lol

  5. I was a true bookworm when I was a child! You couldn’t pull me away from books, and my librarian aunt used to give me signed copies for my birthdays and Christmas. Unfortunately, I haven’t read much at all since I joined the workforce at 17 🙁 just lately I’ve read a few whole books on my iPad, and forgot how much I enjoyed being taken away, even temporarily. Thanks for the post!
