Contrary to what the picture may imply, I’m not interviewing a dragon today. Of course anyone who knows me knows I adore dragons and would love to interview one. Well, one of the ones that don’t munch on people. But today I have an even better guest, the camera-shy author, Terry Reid. She sent me the lovely dragon to represent her. Works for me. Today we’ll be chatting about her novel, Crashing Down to Earth.

About Crashing Down to Earth

crashingdowntoearth

Hayley Foster is a woman with a secret. Her flatmate is her guardian angel. But with the terrifying events of two years ago firmly put behind them, Hayley finally dares hope for a quieter life for her and Alex to enjoy.

But it is not long before the old angel’s past comes back to haunt him in the form of an ex-lover. As Alex tries to protect Hayley though, it quickly becomes apparent that far greater powers are at play, far bigger than either of them could ever have possibly imagined.

Join Hayley and Alex in the first part of their epic journey as they try to save Glasgow, as well as each other, from doom.

And now let’s shine the spotlight on Terry!

Maer:  Thanks for joining us to tell us about your new book, Terry. Where did the inspiration for Crashing Down to Earth come from?

Terry:  Being a sequel, the original inspiration for the first book came from a dream I had. In it, I was sitting on a train going home from Glasgow (I used to travel to and from there for college) and I got talking to this black haired stranger. He played a trick with my ticket and introduced himself as an angel after teaching me a moral lesson about reusing train tickets and not paying for new ones.

It was actually quite a boring dream, but that’s where I got the idea for one of the two main characters, Alex the angel, from. The setting of Glasgow was also taken from the dream. Everything that has followed since has been from my own imaginings.

Maer:  Could you give us a one line synopsis for your book?

Terry:  Join Hayley and her guardian angel as they try to save the city they love, as well as each other, from doom.

Maer:  You already mentioned this is a sequel. How many books do you have planned?

Terry:  Crashing Down to Earth is the second book in the Stars and Satellites series, but the first novel in a two part story.

Maer:  Which character other than your main character is one of your favorites to write and why?

Terry:  As Alex and Hayley are both the lead characters, I will pick co-character Christopher. Christopher is Alex’s brother. I enjoy writing about him because he starts off quite naive when he first comes to Earth (he’s an angel) but grows more into himself as the story progresses.

Maer:  Sounds fun. Now if you had to pick a color to describe Hayley and Alex what would that be and why?

Terry:  Going back to the point that there are two main characters, I’ll start with Hayley. I’d say Hayley would be a red colour, as she gets quite hot-headed at times. Alex would be blue as he is the more mellow character out of the two.

Maer:  Who are your favorite authors to read?

Terry:  I’m quite into George RR Martin at the moment but there are others.

Maer:  Can you share a bit about your current project?

Terry:  Sure. I’m writing the second part of Crashing Down to Earth.

Maer:  Glad to hear that! What do you do when you’re not writing?

Terry:  Stare at a wall. (joking)

Maer:  LOL. What influenced you to write in your genre? And do you write in others?

Terry:  I’ve always enjoyed fantasy and science fiction books and movies, so naturally they are the genres I enjoy the most to write about.

Maer:  Yes, those are my favorites as well. What music, if any, do you like to listen to while writing?

Terry:  I listen to a bit of everything, except pop. God that’s awful. I like a bit of nu metal and rock. But if I’m in a cheery or sentimental mood – or just don’t want my ears blasted off, I’ll listen to bands like Mumford and Sons and The Script.

Maer:  Terry, thanks again for stopping by today. Do you have anything you’d like to add?

Terry:  I like tea. (Does that count?)

Maer: Yes, indeed, that counts. I like tea, too. 🙂
