The fabulous Wendy Russo tagged me in her blog post about her Young Adult novel, “January Black”. I’m continuing the game and you can get a peek at some things about my own new novel, “Relics”. At the bottom of this post, you can see the authors I’ve tagged. Be sure to check out their blogs/websites and read about their fabulous novels!

What is the title of your book?

“Relics”

Where did the idea come from for the book?

I used to play WoW (World of Warcraft) and a lot of people who played Taurens (bovine-based characters) had names that began with “Moo”. I was going to give nicknames to this one couple to make it easier and the names I came up with were Thulu and La Fi. As I typed the names into chat to tell them my suggestions, the light bulb went off. I thought what wonderful characters they would make. It was quite clear to me who they were and what they did. I erased the post and wrote the book instead.

What genre does your book fall under?

Urban Fantasy / Paranormal

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

These were tough, with the exception of Jones and Nana Fae. Moore was in my head as I wrote the book.

Thulu – Chris Hemsworth

La Fi – Natalie Portman

Reo – Chace Crawford

Jones – Shemar Moore

Nana Fae – Meryl Streep

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

Thulu and La Fi race to find the ancient relics to close a portal that could turn Earth into a new feeding ground.

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

Relics is under contract with Crescent Moon Press. The release date has yet to be determined.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

Five weeks. Of course, it got a major rewrite and countless revisions after that.

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

Possibly Kim Harrison’s “The Hollows” series.

Who or What inspired you to write this book?

For me it’s all about the characters and their stories. The names had a lot to do with creating Thulu and La Fi. But I had all these other characters pounding at me to tell their stories, so I simply let them out. They never cease to surprise me and they are still whispering their adventures in my head.

What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

Thulu and La Fi usually deal with the dead. In “Relics”, they become entangled in a war between two ancient races. And they witness up close and personal as the creatures of myth and magic return to Earth, proving once and for all that we are not alone. Faireis, elves, goblins and many others bring magic back, but they’re nothing like your mother’s fairy tales.
