In the Spotlight – Vanessa A. Ryan

Vanessa Ryan author pictureToday’s special Friday the 13th guest is the fabulous Vanessa A. Ryan. A triple threat as an author, actor and artist, I had the pleasure of meeting Vanessa in July. I didn’t get to spend nearly as much time as I would have liked getting to know someone with such a similar background to my own. One thing I do know is that she is talented, supportive and kind, and that’s something to treasure. She even writes in one of my own favorite genres!

About Vanessa A. Ryan

Vanessa A. Ryan is an actress in Southern California. She was born in California and graduated from UCLA. When not writing or acting, she enjoys painting and nature walks. Her paintings and sculptures are collected worldwide. At one point she performed stand up comedy, so her writing often reflects her love of humor, even for serious subjects. She lives with her cat Frannie, and among feral cats she has rescued.

Please read on for more about Vanessa and her first novel, A Blue Moon.

In the Spotlight – Jinx Schwartz

jinx desk on boat 4Jinx Schwartz is our special guest today and she’s going to chat with us about Book 5 in the Hetta Coffey series, Just the Pits. So sit back and enjoy reading about this awesome author!

About Jinx Schwartz

Raised in the jungles of Haiti and Thailand, with returns to Texas in-between, Jinx followed in her father’s steel-toed footsteps into the construction and engineering industry in hopes of building dams. Finding all the good rivers taken, she “traveled the world defacing other landscapes with mega-projects in Alaska, Japan, New Zealand, Puerto Rico and Mexico.”

Like the protagonist in her mystery series, Hetta Coffey, Jinx was a single woman with a yacht—and she wasn’t afraid to use it—when she met her husband, “Mad Dog” Schwartz. They opted to become cash-poor cruisers rather than continue chasing the rat, sailed under the Golden Gate Bridge, turned left and headed for Mexico. They now divide their time between Arizona and Mexico’s Sea of Cortez.

Join me for more about the fascinating Jinx and her recent novel!

In the Spotlight – Genevieve Dewey

image001

It’s a pleasure to welcome Genevieve Dewey, author of The Downey Trilogy. Described as “one part The Godfather, two parts Emma and a dash of Casablanca mixed together, ‘First, I Love You’ isn’t a detective novel, a gangster novel, a mystery, a romance or a family saga. It’s a little of all of the above.” I’m looking forward to reading these books!

Genevieve is also the author of the short stories The Bird Day Battalion & The V-Day Aversion. She is a wife, mother, sister, friend and anthropologist. She loves intelligent debates but has zero tolerance for uninformed opinions (unless it’s stated up front it is based upon an irrational belief in which case props for your honesty!)

She was raised mostly in Nebraska and partly in Arizona. Her parents are from Chicago. Don’t get her started on the subject of Chicago unless you want to be bored to death about how awesome Chicago is.

She got her Bachelors in Anthropology from Texas A&M University (Whoop!) and a Masters degree from University of Nebraska-Lincoln (Go Big Red!). She worked as an Applied Anthropologist for years (even ran her own research company for awhile) before deciding to be a stay at home mom.

She has three insanely brilliant and diabolical children and an incredibly funny and patient husband who is not a Dewey (for which he is thankful because that would be gross) and who hates Chicago (for which his wife forgives him on account of the funny and patient part).

Read on to find out more about Genevieve and her fascinating trilogy!

In the Spotlight – LynDee Walker

Author headshot

LynDee Walker

Fresh from being in the Top Twenty in several Amazon bestseller lists, LynDee Walker has stopped by to tell us about her debut novel, Front Page Fatality, (A Nichelle Clark Headlines in Heels Mystery.) I’ve had the privilege of knowing LynDee for over a year and I’ve gotten to beta read both of her Nichelle Clark novels. It’s been fascinating to watch her dream come true and know that others enjoy her heroine as much as I have.

LynDee grew up in the land of stifling heat and amazing food most people call Texas, and wanted to be Lois Lane pretty much from the time she could say the words “press conference.” An award-winning journalist, she traded cops and deadlines for burp cloths and onesies when her oldest child was born. Writing the Headlines in Heels mysteries gives her the best of both worlds. When not writing or reading, LynDee is usually wrangling children, eating barbecue or enchiladas, or trying to walk off said barbecue and enchiladas. She and her family live in Richmond, Virginia.

Read on to find out more about LynDee and her new book.
