And the Winner is…

Whew! I finished the Camp NaNoWriMo challenge. I managed to write 50,115 words on the sequel to my first novel, RELICS, which is to be published by Crescent Moon Press. The sequel, PORTALS, picks up a month after RELICS ends.

It was an interesting process. I had the entire month of August to hit my goal, but since my new semester of classes begins today, I wanted to hit the goal a few days early.

First Impressions

You know how the host is always asking people how they feel on those talent shows on TV? And they struggle to find words that haven’t been said a hundred times before. Well, I know first-hand how they feel.

I have my very first book deal with Crescent Moon Press! It’s still not completely real to me five days later. And now my very first book has its own page RELICS. I even have an author page!

Summertime

We are well and truly into monsoon season and triple digits here in the high desert of Southern Nevada. The weather is the kind that encourages afternoon siestas. I’m good at giving in to that encouragement.

I can’t attribute it to being on summer vacation, because I actually start in spring, usually around mid-terms. Whatever, the reason, this is when I most like to write and I feel most productive.

So, what are this summer’s plans? Well let me tell you.

In Remembrance

I was saddened to hear of Ray Bradbury’s death. I was lucky enough to get to work with him back in the 1970s when my college performed two of the stage adaptations of his work, “Dandelion Wine” in 1972 and “Pillar of Fire” a couple years later. I acted in both plays. A tiny part in “Dandelion” and a larger part in “Pillar”.

I still have my signed copy of “Dandelion Wine”, but sadly the other has disappeared over the years. Ray was an awesome guy, loads of fun and very generous in spending time with the cast. My roommate and I were his ride a few times ( from his LA home to rehearsals in Fullerton). He had also taken us out to dinner before rehearsals, so we got to know him a bit.
