First Impressions

You know how the host is always asking people how they feel on those talent shows on TV? And they struggle to find words that haven’t been said a hundred times before. Well, I know first-hand how they feel.

I have my very first book deal with Crescent Moon Press! It’s still not completely real to me five days later. And now my very first book has its own page RELICS. I even have an author page!

Summertime

We are well and truly into monsoon season and triple digits here in the high desert of Southern Nevada. The weather is the kind that encourages afternoon siestas. I’m good at giving in to that encouragement.

On the writing front, I completed the two short stories, made significant progress on Book 2 of “The Thulukan Archives” and worked out several parts of  “THE JOURNAL”. I continue to write my column for Corellian Run Radio and last week marked  my 35th weekly article on that site.

June is Bustin’ Out in Wordage!

OK, so I have set myself some rather high expectations this summer. I’m not sure why, but spring and summer seem to be my “writing” months. I can’t attribute it to being on summer vacation, because I actually start in spring, usually around mid-terms. Whatever, the reason, this is when I most like to write and I feel most productive.

So, what are this summer’s plans? Well let me tell you.

In Remembrance

I was saddened to hear of Ray Bradbury’s death. I was lucky enough to get to work with him back in the 1970s when my college performed two of the stage adaptations of his work, “Dandelion Wine” in 1972 and “Pillar of Fire” a couple years later. I acted in both plays. A tiny part in “Dandelion” and a larger part in “Pillar”.

I still have my signed copy of “Dandelion Wine”, but sadly the other has disappeared over the years. Ray was an awesome guy, loads of fun and very generous in spending time with the cast. My roommate and I were his ride a few times ( from his LA home to rehearsals in Fullerton). He had also taken us out to dinner before rehearsals, so we got to know him a bit.

Mint Juleps and the Time Machine

Last summer I discovered an awesome Mint Julep recipe. I bought my bourbon and the ingredients to make the homemade mint syrup. I got fresh mint from a friend’s garden. I carefully made the syrup. Once it was all done and ready to add to the bourbon, I followed the instructions – muddling and squishing mint leaves in my crystal glass. Adding in the crushed ice and syrup and finally the bourbon.

Then I took that first sip – and was transported back in time to my childhood.

And I Have a Badge!

This badge is courtesy of the fabulous Jan O’Hara, one of the writer friends I hang with over at AW.  Jan recently broke her ribs in a fall.  Being the totally creative person she is, she used the accident to create a fun contest for others to write an alternate history on how she managed to do it.

She’s posted the winner, along with some cool comments on the participants.

Thanks for the fun, Jan.  Glad you’re feeling better, too!
