In the Spotlight – Kary Rader

Kary Profile Pic

It’s time for another author feature and this time it’s the fabulous Kary Rader! Kary is an awesome person, fantastic writer and just loads of fun to interact with. How do I know this? Because she’s another one of my fellow authors from Crescent Moon Press and I got to interact with her quite a bit as she geared up today’s release of the Queen of Jastain. Now it’s time to share her new book with you and I think you’ll like it as much as I did!

Kary is a part-time Twitter sage, stay-at-home mother of three, and slave to the characters and worlds inside her head. Always creative, she’s drawn to stories with fantastical worlds and creatures. With a little bit of magic and divine guidance, there isn’t anything that can’t be accomplished with words. It’s the power of words that creates and destroys. Vanquishing evil and injustice while finding eternal love in the process is all in a day’s work. With the help of her critique partners and master cartographer imaginary places come to life.

Let’s find out more about Kary and Queen of Jastain!

In the Spotlight – Diane M. Haynes

IMAG0143One of the things I truly enjoy about putting this column together is that I get a little behind-the-scenes info from authors. I’m always interested in those fun tidbits about books and the authors who write them. It’s especially fun when I’ve had a chance to read the book and loved it. Diane M. Haynes’ Rift Healer is absolutely delightful and getting the chance to chat with Diane is a real treat.

Diane grew up drawing, painting and sculpting. Writing was relegated to the occasional short story or reports written while working with disabled adults. Although she’s written at least a dozen short stories over the years, most have been relegated to notebooks in a drawer.

She wrote Rift Healer between serving customers at her New Age shop during the months of April, May and June, 2009 and spent the next 18 months editing. Crescent Moon Press, the first publisher she submitted the book to, bought it.
Diane lives in Central MA. where she and her husband care for their Special Needs friend, Richard and two rescued Basset Hounds, Boris and Ruby, whose sad pasts do nothing to diminish their spirit or their willingness to be naughty.

Cover Reveal – The Grave Winner

It’s always so exciting when I get to reveal a new cover. The Grave Winner by Lindsey R. Loucks is due out May 15, 2013. Be sure to check it out! I know I will.

Single tree in field during winter 2

About The Grave Winner

Leigh Baxton is terrified her mom will come back from the dead — just like the prom queen did.

While the town goes beehive over the news, Leigh bikes to the local cemetery and buries some of her mom’s things in her grave to keep her there. When the hot and mysterious caretaker warns her not to give gifts to the dead, Leigh cranks up her punk music and keeps digging.

She should have listened.

Two dead sorceresses evicted the prom queen from her grave to bury someone who offered certain gifts. Bury them alive, that is, then resurrect them to create a trio of undead powerful enough to free the darkest sorceress ever from her prison inside the earth.

With help from the caretaker and the dead prom queen, Leigh must find out what’s so special about the gifts she gave, and why the sorceresses are stalking her and her little sister. If she doesn’t  she’ll either lose another loved one or have to give the ultimate gift to the dead – herself.

In the Spotlight – Jody A. Kessler

032

Yay, Jody A. Kessler has stopped by to chat today! I recently had the pleasure of reading her debut novel, Death Lies Between Us. Intriguing premise, interesting characters and a story that kept me guessing, also managed to keep me awake turning those pages! Or rather flicking the pages on my Kindle. Her New Adult novel gives a fascinating and very different spin on the Angel of Death. It’s exciting to have her in today’s spotlight!

Jody enjoys writing paranormal novels and is a member of Pikes Peak Writers. She is a yoga instructor, Reiki Master, and a graduate from the Colorado Institute of Massage Therapy. When she took an extended leave from her massage practice to stay at home with her newborn she returned to her first true passion —writing. She spends most of her time being a mother, writing, and teaching yoga, but also likes going to concerts, hiking, practicing herbal medicine, and reading anything that catches her interest. Jody lives in the mountains of Colorado with her family.

In the Spotlight – Shawna Romkey

SR (83)

It’s a great pleasure to host Shawna Romkey today. I thoroughly enjoyed her debut YA novel, Speak of the Devil, and love this chance to get to know the author a little better.

Shawna grew up around farms in the heart of Missouri but went to the University of Kansas, was raised in the US but now lives on the ocean in Nova Scotia with her husband, two sons, two rescue dogs and one overgrown puppy from hell. She’s a non-conformist who follows her heart.

She has her BA in creative writing from the University of Kansas where one of her plays was chosen by her creative writing professor to be produced locally, and two of her short stories were published in a university creative arts handbook.  She earned her MA in English from Central Missouri State University where she wrote a novel as her thesis.

She’s taught English at the university and secondary levels for close to twenty years and can’t quite fathom how all of her students have grown up, yet she’s managed to stay the same.  She’s a huge geek and fan of Xena, Buffy and all kick ass women, and loves to write stories that have strong female characters.

It’s always a treat to chat with the talented and lovely Colby Marshall. A lady of many interests, Colby is another friend who has recently released her debut novel. She joins us today to talk about her recent release, Chain of Command.

Writer by day, ballroom dancer and choreographer by night, Colby has a tendency to turn every hobby she has into a job, thus ensuring that she is a perpetual workaholic.  In addition to her 9,502 regular jobs, she is also a contributing columnist for M Food and Culture magazine and is a proud member of International Thriller Writers and Sisters in Crime.  She is actively involved in local theatres as a choreographer as well as sometimes indulges her prima donna side by taking the stage as an actress.  She lives in Georgia with her family, two mutts, and an array of cats that, if she were a bit older, would qualify her immediately for crazy cat lady status.  Her debut thriller, Chain of Command is now available, and the second book in her McKenzie McClendon series, The Trade, is due for publication by Stairway Press in June 2013.
