In the Spotlight – Vanessa A. Ryan

Vanessa Ryan author pictureToday’s special Friday the 13th guest is the fabulous Vanessa A. Ryan. A triple threat as an author, actor and artist, I had the pleasure of meeting Vanessa in July. I didn’t get to spend nearly as much time as I would have liked getting to know someone with such a similar background to my own. One thing I do know is that she is talented, supportive and kind, and that’s something to treasure. She even writes in one of my own favorite genres!

About Vanessa A. Ryan

Vanessa A. Ryan is an actress in Southern California. She was born in California and graduated from UCLA. When not writing or acting, she enjoys painting and nature walks. Her paintings and sculptures are collected worldwide. At one point she performed stand up comedy, so her writing often reflects her love of humor, even for serious subjects. She lives with her cat Frannie, and among feral cats she has rescued.

Please read on for more about Vanessa and her first novel, A Blue Moon.

In the Spotlight – Michelle Browne

Brown picAuthor Michelle Browne sounds charming, quirky and fun – just the kind of person I’d love to spend time  hanging out with. She writes a blend of SF, horror and fantasy. That’s a win for me because those are my favorite genres. Her collection The Loved, The Lost, The Dreaming includes a full length novel, as well as some spooky short stories. Join me as we get to know more about Michelle and her new book.

Michelle is a published science fiction author with a love for talking about the end of the world, silver jewellery, nightmares, and chocolate. She came from a smallish town in Southern Alberta and now lives in Calgary with her partner. When they’re not saving the world from hipsters or riding their bear cavalry to work, they can be found on the internet or with their friends.

In the Spotlight – Genevieve Dewey

image001

It’s a pleasure to welcome Genevieve Dewey, author of The Downey Trilogy. Described as “one part The Godfather, two parts Emma and a dash of Casablanca mixed together, ‘First, I Love You’ isn’t a detective novel, a gangster novel, a mystery, a romance or a family saga. It’s a little of all of the above.” I’m looking forward to reading these books!

Genevieve is also the author of the short stories The Bird Day Battalion & The V-Day Aversion. She is a wife, mother, sister, friend and anthropologist. She loves intelligent debates but has zero tolerance for uninformed opinions (unless it’s stated up front it is based upon an irrational belief in which case props for your honesty!)

She was raised mostly in Nebraska and partly in Arizona. Her parents are from Chicago. Don’t get her started on the subject of Chicago unless you want to be bored to death about how awesome Chicago is.

She got her Bachelors in Anthropology from Texas A&M University (Whoop!) and a Masters degree from University of Nebraska-Lincoln (Go Big Red!). She worked as an Applied Anthropologist for years (even ran her own research company for awhile) before deciding to be a stay at home mom.

She has three insanely brilliant and diabolical children and an incredibly funny and patient husband who is not a Dewey (for which he is thankful because that would be gross) and who hates Chicago (for which his wife forgives him on account of the funny and patient part).

Read on to find out more about Genevieve and her fascinating trilogy!
